Ways to adopt

Local Adoption: This involves adopting a child from within Nigeria. Prospective adoptive parents must meet certain eligibility requirements and follow legal procedures set out by the government.

Inter-country Adoption: This involves adopting a child from another country. Prospective adoptive parents must meet the eligibility requirements set out by both the Nigerian government and the country where the child is located. Inter-country adoptions are subject to international adoption laws and agreements.

Step-parent Adoption: This involves adopting a child who is the biological child of one’s spouse or partner. The biological parent must give consent, and the adoption must be approved by a court.

Family Member Adoption: This involves adopting a child who is a relative, such as a niece or nephew, grandchild, or sibling. Consent must be obtained from the child’s parents or legal guardian, and the adoption must be approved by a court.

Foster-to-Adopt: This involves becoming a foster parent to a child with the intent of adopting the child if parental rights are terminated or if the child becomes available for adoption.
